This grande dame hotel in the center of Bern has played host to politicians, diplomats, authors, and heads of state for more than 150 years. The service and hospitality is top-notch, and the 128 rooms are large and comfortable. Ask for one with a view of the river and rows of intact Renaissance-era homes. Bern is the capital of Switzerland, and the entire Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is preserved in another time, and the Bellevue is an excellent place to return to at the end of a day exploring the city.

Luxury Hotel with Best View of Bern

Upon arriving to the Bellevue Palace hotel in Bern, I knew I was in for something special. It almost felt like traveling back in time and for good reason. The Bellevue has quite a history. It first opened in 1865, although its heyday wasn’t until the 1920s. A lot has happened since then, of course, yet the space still feels effortlessly frozen in time being tired. There are touches of modern decor that keeps the space bright and airy. By far the best perk of staying at the Bellevue is the view. If you’re lucky enough to snag one of their river-facing rooms with a balcony, you’re in for an extra treat. For a hotel in Europe, I found the room to be very spacious, with plenty of amenities. Despite being such an A-list hotel, I was surprised that it felt almost like a boutique property. Even while eating breakfast on the outside patio that overlooks the river, there was no commotion. If you need a little extra pampering, I’d suggest heading to the spa, or at the very least, the sauna. Finally, don’t leave without splurging on a cocktail at the legendary Bellevue Bar, which is open daily and has an extensive drink menu. That said, if you do decide to eat dinner in the Old City, you’re mere steps away from all the major streets.
