Summer vacationing with the family in Europe got a lot cheaper earlier this month, thanks to a popular round-trip pricing deal relaunched by British Airways.
The promo, introduced for last summer and resuscitated May 10th, allows two kids up to age 12 to fly free between London’s Heathrow International Airport and the main airports in six other destinations—so long as the kids travel with at least one full-paying adult.
Five of the destinations are in the United Kingdom: Leeds, Newcastle, Inverness, Belfast, and Edinburgh, a new city for the airline. The promo also includes flights to Billund, in Denmark, which is home to the LEGOLAND Billund resort. The deal can be used on the airline’s cheapest economy fares, known throughout the region as Euro Traveller tickets. All fliers, including U.S. citizens, are eligible.
According to a special BA microsite, the deal is available for travel between June 1st through October 31st.
That same site indicates that prices start at about £75, but a test-booking by the Independent seemed to suggest that when amortized correctly, per-passenger prices were even cheaper than that. In a recent article, the British newspaper discovered a carry-on-only round-trip itinerary for one adult and two kids between Heathrow and Billund that cost a total of £93, or £31 apiece.
(It’s worth noting that travelers under 16 do not pay Air Passenger Duty, which adds £13 to flights departing from the United Kingdom and that on British Airways, checked bags incur an additional fee.)
Adam Daniels, the airline’s COO, said in a statement that the deal was designed to give a boost to U.K. tourism by allowing families to travel around the region and see sights for less. “Saving every penny counts when it comes to family holidays,” he was quoted as saying.
The same release indicated that there are a number of other family-friendly offers to save customers money this summer, including kids-eat-free deals at participating restaurants inside Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and free travel for youngsters on the Heathrow Express between Heathrow and London’s Paddington Station.
Blackout periods apply on some routes and all seats are subject to availability. In other words, book soon if you want to take advantage of this sweet deal.
