Although D.C. style has historically leaned conservative, it doesn’t mean that shoppers can’t find the latest clothes, home furnishings, or food items. The nation’s capital has a number of high-end stores, independent boutiques, and outdoor markets to satisfy the shopaholic, whether you’re looking for designer suits, crafts, or vintage whatnots.

A boom of new restaurants, especially along 14th Street, has made eating in D.C. more satisfying the ever. Case in point: Ryan Ratino’s Bresca, which shakes off any notions of capital city stodginess with its thrillingly unusual flavor combinations. Among the Michelin stars and celebrity chefs, you’ll find a global culinary perspective, from Ethiopian to Western Thai to Greek. Home to over 150 active registered food trucks, DC’s food truck phenomenon is alive and well. From ethnic to comfort food, most trucks are situated along public squares, namely Franklin and Farragut Squares, and outside Metro subway stops such as Union Station, Metro Center, L’Enfant Plaza, and Rosslyn.
