The delightfully kitsch daily mermaid shows, which have been running for over 60 years, are why most people come to this famed Florida state park roughly an hour north of Tampa. The mermaids perform a rendition of The Little Mermaid within the natural setting of the spring head, and it's a hoot to watch. In addition, the park offers a bird of prey show, boat tours into the river, and kayak and paddleboard rentals. A bit disruptive to the natural feel of the place is Buccaneer Bay, a big waterpark area with waterslides, a lazy river, and a swimming area that gets filled to capacity during the summer months. Come for the mermaid show, we say, then find a more relaxing Florida spring for a swim.
