For a simple day hike suitable for the whole family (even if you have a child who needs to be carried), head to the south end of South Pine Street in Telluride to jump onto the 2.5-mile trail that leads up to a beautiful waterfall. It's a popular trail, wide and well-marked for anyone to follow. The trail gains about 1,000 feet of elevation and offers views of the town along the way, when you're able to peek through the leaves. Up near the falls, the trees thin out and the view looks right down the narrow valley to town. For those keen to go farther, press on to connect to the Wasatch Trail and Bridal Veil Basin.
