In Kampong Glam, old Malay and Arab merchant communities continue to do business. With its bright gold dome, the Sultan Mosque is the city’s biggest. A colorful little strip, the Bussorah pedestrian mall is lined with small shops, vendors and restaurants, as is nearby Arab Street. The Malay Heritage Centre, which is in an old colonial building, is located within the complex of the former sultan. Its galleries exhibit the history and culture of Singapore’s Malay people.
