About an hour from Port-au-Prince, following a gorgeous windy (and bumpy!) road into the mountains, we found Rustik, an eco-friendly resort and lounge. In resourceful Haiti fashion, it’s been creatively built from recycled and local materials, making them the focal point of the funky architecture. It’s a great place to drop in and have a Prestige (local Haitian beer) on the vast porch after a hike through the surrounding area. Speaking of activities, the team at Rustik is happy to connect guests with locals for horse back riding, guided hikes, etc. Time to make friends! Although we didn’t, it’s possible to spend the night in the crazy tree-house, or in any of the other accommodations, but don’t forget to bring warm clothes. This ain’t a luxurious place and it can get real cold in the mountains.
