Date & Thyme
Lately I've been very into finding healthy eateries while traveling. My favorite nutritious spot in Key West is Date & Thyme. The building is an old gas station with a cafe and market inside. The cafe serves coffee, fresh juices, smoothies and teas. The market supports the community with locally-made soaps, produce, grocery items and handmade textiles. The shop offers handmade jewelry, candles, books and product centered around wellness. The mostly vegan menu is colorful with an array of salads, bowls and toast. I chose the acai bowl with blueberries, banana, and goji berries, blended with creamy coconut milk, and topped with granola, coconut fakes, goji berries, and cacao nibs. It was heavenly. The restaurant's off Duval location makes the patio seating area a peaceful place to spend some time as it's not crowded with tourists given that it's a bit removed from the madness. The outdoor garden is tranquil. At night there's live entertainment and (organic) wine served. The owner is Charlie Wilson who studied at Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts after making health and wellness a priority. She later moved to Key West and focused on improving the the lives of others through food.
