Bærums Verk is a collection of 40 shops, galleries, and eateries in a relaxing riverside setting, just a 40-minute bus ride from downtown Oslo. The former ironworks turned shopping village comes alive on Saturdays with a variety of activities including markets, live music, and children’s entertainment scheduled throughout the year. The pick of the restaurants is the Dutch-inspired pancake house in which the sweet treats are cooked over an open fire. A visit here at Christmastime is extra special, as the frozen river, outdoor market, reindeer rides, and aroma of roasted chestnuts create a warming atmosphere that belies the low temperatures.
