You’ll need to join an organized tour to get there, but a trip to the Blue Lagoon is well worth the experience. Located on the western edge of the Rangiroa atoll, about an hour by boat from Avatoru, it’s like stepping into a postcard from paradise. Here, a string of white-sand motus (islets) and coral reefs have formed a beautiful natural pool on the edge of the main reef—so this is basically a lagoon within a lagoon. You’ll see plenty of reef sharks and fish in the crystal-clear water.
