Pool of Inner Perception
About a 10-minute drive from the shores of Lake Yamanaka lies a cluster of eight deepwater pools designated as a National Treasure by the Japanese government and known as Oshino-hakkai. Filled with meltwater from the snow capping Mt. Fuji for most of the year, the water in these springs is crystal clear and shimmers with a gorgeous emerald-sapphire tint, allowing an unobstructed view of the colorful fish and aquatic plants within. In addition to providing pristine drinking water that can be freely sampled by visitors, the purity of the water is ideal for making buckwheat noodles; Oshino soba is renowned for its flavor and texture and can be sampled in abundance at one of the several noodle shops in the surrounding village.
