Soft, gray, secluded sands stretch along the island's northeast coast, where the Atlantic is calm enough for swimming. A tiny, rustic bar—complete with hammocks—serves snacks and rum punch; the scene gets especially lively during Sunday barbecues. It cost non-Dominicans EC$13 ($US5) to visit. To reach Batibou, walk 20 minutes down the rough, often muddy track or hire an EC$5 roundtrip ride from the Hampstead Country House.
