You’re dashing through the airport to catch a plane when you get an alert on your phone: Your United Airlines flight has had a gate change and, as luck would have it, the departing gate is right in front of you. Time saved, worry gone.
Keeping travelers up to date is just one of many features of United’s newly redesigned mobile app. Over a year in the making, incorporating feedback from more than 1,000 United employees and customers, the new United app aims to be the best travel companion you could imagine—an all-in-one personal assistant that intuitively guides you through every step of your journey.
This one-stop travel hub helps you manage all of your travel details, from booking your flight through landing at your destination. Here are some of the highlights.
Dynamic Messaging
The new United app will send you real-time updates at the most important times.
- Before you fly. Twenty-four hours before departure, you’ll be prompted to check in. Once you do, your boarding pass will rest on the home screen, ready to be scanned, so you don’t have search for it when it’s time to board.
- The day of travel. If unexpected, last-minute changes occur, such as weather delays or gate changes, alerts will appear so you’re not caught off-guard.
- In-flight. Once airborne, the home screen will display your flight status. It will also be your resource for onboard entertainment, making it easier to decide which movie or TV show you’d like to watch. With United Private Screening on select flights, you can even view it on your own device.
- When you land. If you have a connection, a detailed terminal map will appear, highlighting the fastest route to get to the next gate. Navigating even the trickiest of airports is now easy; gone are the stresses and worries of how far you might be from your next gate, and how long it will take to get there. If you’re arriving at your final destination and picking up your checked luggage, you’ll see your baggage carousel information.
Ease of Navigation
Featuring an intuitive interface, the new United app is easier than ever to use. It combines the most-loved features of the previous version, such as bag tracking, with several new ones. On the bottom of the home screen, you’ll find a simple navigation bar with icons for quick access to some of the most popular tools. Check “In Box” for all updates about your flight, from push notifications to flight status changes and when boarding for a flight has begun. And with “My Trips,” you can find information about your current trip and all upcoming ones, along with your boarding passes.
It’s Intuitive
One of the greatest features of the new design is its intuitiveness. Need to know how many miles you’ve accumulated? It’s right there, under “My Profile.” Want to find a United Club at the airport to relax before your flight or check the exchange rate of the dollar to the Euro? It’s right there, too. Plus, it’s never been easier to check on your position on the upgrade or standby lists. You can also change or upgrade your seating assignments, change or cancel your reservations, or rebook your flights.
Then, to find and book flights, just touch the small airplane icon at the bottom of the screen and search for new flights on United or any of its Star Alliance partner airlines and purchase them with cash or award miles. Bon voyage!
