  • Lindos 851 07, Greece
Our budget cruise had a full day stop on Rhodes Island. The island is certainly a favourite of mine. The old city is beautiful, but with a whole day, a trip to Lindos is a highlight. The taxi fare is astronomical, so we asked around a little and found the public bus stop. The bus was a unique insight into the life of those living on Rhodes, and though it is a long hour and a half ride, I would recommend it. Lindos is a traditional Mediterranean town built down the side of a hill on the seaside. The top of the hill is the beautiful Acropolis of Lindos, towering above the ocean. To get up there, we paid the 5 euro for the donkey ride, and took a stroll along a side path to get a different view on the way down. The visit was extremely memorable. • Acropolis of Lindos, Lindos 851 07, Greece
On the rocky promontory above the beautiful village of Lindos, the imposing walls of a castle that belonged to the Knights of Saint John are visible. Travelers who hike the steep path up from the village find more than can be seen from below: stoas, staircases, magnificent gateways, a vast relief carving of a warship and the columns of the Temple of Athena Lindia, set on a flat platform with stunning views down to the sea.
  • 29450 Valley of Fire Hwy, Overton, NV 89040, USA
Valley of Fire is the oldest state park in Nevada, and a great place to see 3,000-year-old Indian petroglyphs and explore the red sandstone formations created during the age of the dinosaurs. Bring your camera to photograph the landscape while hiking this rocky landscape formed over 150 million years ago. The red sandstone gives off an incredible light, which makes the grey rocks nearby appear turquoise. Great place to camp while watching incredible sunrises and sunsets! Photographers will go crazy for this place, especially in spring, when a variety of wild flowers bloom. Skip the Las Vegas strip and head straight to this magical place!
  • Dining in the village of Lindos should be elegant and, if possible, involve a stupendous view. Melenos-Lindos ticks both boxes. The restaurant is in a boutique hotel considered the most romantic place to stay in the village—and with the castle above and the sea below, it makes for a romantic place to eat, too.
  • Kolympia 851 03, Greece
Located between Rhodes Town and Lindos, this 600-square-meter (almost 6,500-square-foot) complex is run by a family of artists as a gallery to both showcase and sell their works. The on-site Keramos Museum examines the local tradition and process of pottery-making, from clay to kiln and beyond. You can often meet the artists and see them at work.
  • When you’re driving on the road from Rhodes Town to Lindos and see a little brick shop with a yellow sign that reads, “Stop and have a look,” follow the instructions. This family-run workshop and store offer unique designs crafted from sterling silver—hammered cuff bracelets, Byzantine chains, sculptural pendants, beautiful cuff links and keychains—at affordable prices. Save your breath: The proud owner-artisan won’t haggle on prices.
  • Calle 3 Sur 289, Centro, 77600 San Miguel de Cozumel, Q.R., Mexico
Named for one of Mexico’s most beloved songs, Cielito Lindo’s specialties are the favorite dishes of the Yucatán: cochinita pibil (roasted pork), sopa de lima (lime soup) and shrimp ceviche. If you’ve never tried mezcal (tequila’s smokier cousin), order a mezcal margarita to accompany your meal.
