Vlacherna Monastery and Pontikonisi

Corfu, Greece

The whitewashed convent nestled on the islet of Vlacherna will already be familiar to anyone who has walked past a postcard stand on Corfu, as it is one of the most photographed views on the island. This is deservedly so as it provides a beautiful image of peace and contemplation. The nearby islet of Pontikonisi (called Mouse Island) is said to be one of Odysseus’ ships turned to stone by a vengeful Poseidon.
