Shell Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the entire Bighorn National Forest, and also one of the most easily accessed – the Shell Falls Interpretive Center is located partway down massive Shell Canyon, near the quaint town of Shell, easily accessed from Sheridan via Highway 14 (approx. 1 hr 30 min driving time). The falls tumble more than 120 feet over sheer walls of granite into a great pool, where even massive ponderosa pine are decimated by the force of the cascading water. A visit to Shell Falls makes for an exciting day trip from Sheridan – especially when combined with other Bighorn National Forest attractions, like Medicine Wheel, Sibley Lake, and a hike or two into the high country.
