The Paleolithic-era Grotte de Pair-Non-Pair may be less well-known than the caves in Lascaux, but it’s no less remarkable (and here you’ll get to see the cave proper, not a reconstruction). Neanderthals once inhabited this dwelling, leaving flint and bone tools and drawings of mammoths, horses and ibexes as evidence. For conservation purposes, there’s a very limited number of visitors permitted each day, so book ahead for a guided tour.
