Foodies be forewarned. The Fermentation Farm plays on your senses, bringing us back home to our natural state of organic and raw goodness. Hidden on the edge of Costa Mesa, you pull into an inconspicuous shopping center, dry cleaner, nail salon, liquor store included. And then you walk into the Fermentation Farm. Bright, rustic, happy, laid back, and packed with jars of fermented creations. While you may have heard about their in-house and on tap kombucha (when you can see the barrels of kombucha fermenting with cultures that are hundreds of years old, you know you’re in for the real thing), you suddenly find yourself with a basket full of other delights. Who’s up for some signature Zingy Yogurt, Garlic Kraut, Daikon Kimchee, Raw Almond Milk, or even Bone Broth? Extra Perk: Sampling galore! That’s right, you get to try the garlic carrots, beet kraut, ginger soda, and variety of kombucha flavors. Keen on creating your own kombucha? They’ve got a class for that. The Ferm Farm hosts various classes to teach us newbies how to create our own yogurt, kombucha, kraut, and such. Good to know: this is a membership based store. You can sign up, at time of your purchase, for a one-month trial period of $5 or a one-time (in your life) fee of $25. This is the price we pay for buying raw and fermented foods in a country that carries bizarre health-code regulations. Totally worth it.
