Fantian Temple (Brahma Temple)

Lunshan Rd, Tongan Qu, Xiamen Shi, Fujian Sheng, China, 361100

Fantian (also known as Brahma) Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Fujian. Did you know that the oldest Buddhist shrine was recently discovered in Nepal, probably dating to 550 BCE? This temple is “only” 1,500 years old, but it’s easier to get to than Nepal. It’s near the main peak of Dalun Mountain, making it a great spot for photos. Parts of the temple have been destroyed over the years, but Fantian is so important to local Buddhists that it’s always been rebuilt. Buddhists from around the world have donated money to restore it to its current state. They’ve done a good job, especially on the impressive mountain gate and the Pavilion of 1,000 Buddhas. Show the following to a taxi driver: 梵天寺福建省厦门市同安区大同镇轮山路. It will cost 114 RMB and take about 45 minutes with no traffic. Alternatively, take bus 658路 to 954路, but that will take about two hours.
