Eduardo Ribeiro Museum

322 Rua José Clemente

An influential early-20th-century governor, Eduardo Ribeiro was also a sugar-mill owner, journalist and military officer whose splendid home a block from the opera house had fallen into disrepair, as often happens in the tropics. Wonderfully renovated in 2010 as the Eduardo Ribeiro Museum, the residence’s tropical dark-wood floors, beds, dining table and office desk—some original and others reproductions—look as fresh as they would have a century ago when the governor lived and worked in the house.
