Batería de CastillitosTake in spectacular views of Cartagena Bay and the peaks of the Sierra de la Muela from the ramparts of this military stronghold. Built in the 1930s to resemble a medieval fortress, with rocky turrets and huge cannons, the battery has a complicated labyrinth of dependencies and machinery rooms inside. Also known as C-1, Castillitos was first conceived as part of a 1926 plan of coastal defenses by Prime Minister Primo de Rivera and would play a crucial role during the Spanish Civil War.
