An hour’s drive from Dakar, this animal sanctuary, studded with acacia and baobab trees, shelters once-endangered species that have been successfully reintroduced to the area. On a guided tour, you may spot zebras, white rhinos and giraffes, as well as crocodiles lurking on riverbanks, Cape elands and roan antelopes. Some 120 species of birds also make their home here, among them ostriches and blue-naped mousebirds, and there are replicas of the Serer pyramids, ancient burial mounds of the West African ethno-religious group.
