Everyone could use a little Lowcountry adventure without leaving their desk. Here’s a gallery of some of the places and experiences that make Palmetto Bluff, in this corner of South Carolina, a beloved destination. After you have seen what is waiting, we expect you’ll want to start planning your getaway.

Palmetto Bluff sits in a remarkable part of the United States’ East Coast in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Here, a watery world of marshlands sits under enormous skies, with countless small islands dotting the horizon. It’s an area of unique biological diversity, which Palmetto Bluff is committed to protecting.

Located on over 20,000 acres of marsh-front and riverfront coastline, Palmetto Bluff is crossed by trails and small roads. You can choose to explore on foot through untouched forests or by bicycle along residential roads by stately houses in the shade of century-old live oaks.

The houses at Palmetto Bluff reflect the vernacular architecture of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. Wide open porches and gas lanterns are reminders that this unique corner of the East Coast is your home away from home.

Palmetto Bluff has a variety of accommodations to choose from including cottages and larger houses. For some travelers, however, the favorite choice is the Inn, where you are close to the outdoor pool and the spa and in the heart of the activity on the Bluff.

The celebration of Lowcountry culture extends to its cuisine. You can choose from nine different restaurants and bars when looking to sample some of the region’s favorite dishes—like shrimp and grits and fried chicken. You may want to pair it with a local whiskey.

Bordered by the Cooper, May, and New rivers, Palmetto Bluff has a maze of waterways waiting to be explored by boat, perhaps on a sunset cocktail cruise.

The calm and protected waterways of Palmetto Bluff are an ideal place to try something new—perhaps canoeing, kayaking, or paddleboarding. You’ll get to experience the vibrant shades of the skies here, changing throughout the day, while drifting along the creeks and inlets under your own paddle power.

The sporting life is central to the Palmetto Bluff experience. You can test your aim at the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club or on a guided hunt. If horseback riding sounds more appealing, the staff at the Longfield Stables will get you in the saddle and then out on the trails.

Bring a pair of binoculars on a hike and you may spot bluebirds, bald eagles, or the screech owls that emerge at dusk. They are just a few of the birds, and other species, who make their home in the lands that are protected as part of the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy.
