A Destination Restaurant in a Mountain Town
Trokay Restaurant owners John and Nyna Weatherson relocated to Truckee from New York City because they wanted to live in a beautiful mountain town. Fortunately for the greater Sacramento/Reno region, they brought their top-notch culinary training and experience with them. This cozy, friendly, yet modern restaurant serves French-inspired New American food that shows combinations and details so intricate that I found myself baffled the entire 3-hour meal. Even items traditional enough that I could easily recognize them, like the buttermilk biscuits or dessert-course cheese platter, are so perfectly executed that they barely resemble their common counterparts. The innovative food that comes from the kitchen is matched by the perfection of the items from the upstairs pastry and cheeses kitchen. Trokay also serves fine coffee and beer. Trokay offers a regular dinner menu and two prix-fixe menus with the option of adding wine pairings. Most salads start at $14 and entrees at $36. Reservations are generally recommended.
