The Château de Roquebrune Cap Martin, also know as Château Grimaldi, is the oldest dungeon in France. Originally erected by Conrad I in the 10th century, the fortress grew into a village throughout the Middle Ages, creating a distinctly medieval town. The seaside town has inspired modern builders as well: Le Corbusier was drawn to the area and built his utopian holiday retreat Cabanon here, while Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray built the modernist E-1027 villa.
