  • 790 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1G3, Canada
The moment the snow melts, young Torontonians begin their annual spring migration to Trinity Bellwoods Park. The hippest park in town, Bellwoods stretches from the shopper’s paradise of Queen West up to central Dundas Street. On a summer’s day, sun-and-fun seekers spread out on beach blankets to watch the action: at the dog run, on the tennis courts, in the kiddie pool, and even closer, on the adjacent blankets. After dark, head to nearby Bellwoods Brewery for a pint.

Tempt fate at the Monkey Paw’s Book-O-Matic machine, where for the price of a toonie you’ll be delivered an archaic tome in the vein of Elementary Arabic, Vol. 3. I’ll let you know how my studying gets on. The Monkey’s Paw is an eclectic vintage bookstore on Dundas with a collection of unique books, vintage maps, and bugs preserved in Lucite.

Design fans fond of minimalism and Marie Kondo can add another M to their repertoire: Mjölk. Swedish for “milk"—and pronounced mi-yelk—this lifestyle shop and gallery is all about simple beauty. Housed in a Victorian building in the Junction neighborhood, Mjölk brings Scandinavian and Japanese artists and artisans under one roof, offering everything from a Shaker-style peg rack to a silver sugar bowl to a rust-colored Arne Jacobson sofa. In addition to showcasing noted names, John and Juli Baker, the husband-and-wife team behind the business, have funneled their expertise into locally produced design collaborations.

Chances are, if you see a vintage sign in a Toronto coffee shop or a restaurant, it’s from Smash Recoveries. Chock-full of vintage goods and salvaged antiques, this showroom in the Junction offers the chance to find something inspiring. After all, you can’t help but feel a creative spark when you spot a canoe in the display window. But the best part? You don’t have to break the bank to shop here. Browse the selection of globes and maps, then head next door for a pint at Indie Ale House.

I popped into Imperial Tattoo in Toronto‘s Land of Oz to meet with Ronan Gibney, one of the country’s most famed tattoo artists. Ronan’s chair is often booked two months out, which makes it tough to drop by and get a dragon, naked lady, or laser beam inked upon your back without prior notice. But don’t let that stop you from trying. Imperial has been an Institution on Oz since 2008, growing and expanding with the eclectic neighborhood it calls home. Worth a look, if you can handle the needle.

Push your chips to the center of the table, and lay your cards down – then do it over again. Tens of thousands of gamers come to the Bahamas every year in order to test their luck and their mettle at some of the world’s most lavish casinos, the most famous of which is certainly Atlantis, the fairy-tale kingdom of glittering game stations. The Wyndham Nassau Resort & Crystal Palace Casino attracts penny pinchers and high rollers alike, with slots that service every denomination of coin and currency imaginable (penny slots do exist!). The Wyndham is also home to the Bahamas’ main Sports Book. The other big draws are Freeport’s Bahamia and Lucaya’s Isle of Capri, both of which feature roulette, baccarat, craps tables, and more.
