History at Wallblake House
Said to be the oldest structure on the island, Wallblake House is also the only former 18th-century plantation home that was restored, as well as the only one that can be toured. Located in The Valley, capital of Anguilla, the hand-built property dates back to 1787 and was once part of a 97-acre plantation growing sugar and cotton. Bestowed to the Catholic Church in the 20th century, it remained abandoned until it was finally refurbished. The main home, which previously suffered a fire, and the outbuildings are intact in design, and you can see the ruins of the sugar plantation nearby.
