Located next to Kuala Lumpur’s Old Railway Station and not far from the Lake Gardens, this landmark is pretty much impossible to miss. Built in 1965 on the site of a church, this enormous mosque can accommodate up to 15,000 people. Its roof forms an 18-point star—the points representing Malaysia’s 13 states plus the five pillars of Islam. From the 74-meter-high (243-foot-high) minaret, the call to prayer rings out over the city. There are also manicured gardens and reflecting pools here that make this a tranquil space in the heart of the city.
