Kiel Fjord

Eckernförder Str. 31, 24116 Kiel, Germany

Formed by ancient glaciers, the Kiel Fjord extends for 18 kilometers (11 miles) from the city of Kiel up to the Baltic Sea. Along its length, visitors can see both the remains of Viking settlements and fishing villages as well as massive shipbuilding works. As a major maritime center, the Schleswig-Holstein capital of Kiel is where the 1938 and 1972 Olympic sailing events were held. On the approach to the city, guests will see the popular waterfront promenade as well as the opera house and Venetian-inspired city hall tower that are illuminated at night.
