House of the Virgin Mary

At first glance, the idea that the Virgin Mary may have lived in this small stone house outside Ephesus may seem far-fetched. However, it appears that other followers of Jesus traveled to the region after his death and Paul and John both preached in the city. Still, most of the basis for the belief that this house was the home of the Virgin Mary comes from the visions of a 19th-century German nun. The debates surrounding the house matter little to the thousands of pilgrims who come to pray here and tie small pieces of cloth to the wishing wall on the site.
