The domed 18th-century pile of the Museo de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts) is home to Valencia’s collection of Old Masters por excelencia. It’s a place to admire the high points of regional art, from works of the 14th century to Spanish Impressionist Joaquín Sorolla (born in Valencia in 1863). Look out for Hieronymus Bosch’s superbly grotesque Triptych of the Insults, one of the museum’s must-sees. The quiet and cool of the interior—and the airy cupola with its blue painted ceiling—provide a welcome respite from the heat of a Valencian summer day.
