Learn About Egypt’s Nubian Minority
It’s an ancient term for an ancient people, Nubians have called parts of southern Egypt home literally since the time of the pharaohs. They’re still a recognized minority group today, with their own language, customs and traditions. You will most likely meet many around Aswan; they were relocated from riverside villages when the Aswan High Dam was built. Many tour operators, including Insight Vacations, offer visits to Nubian villages so you can meet and chat with them, learning more about their culture and what is important to them. Be sure to try some of their famously dark and rich Moka coffee, as far from the Starbucks version as you will ever taste.
