The beloved French countryside-inspired hospitality brand Mirbeau Inn & Spa is launching reservations for its third New York location today, Afar has exclusively learned. Beacon, New York, nearly 70 miles from New York City, will be home to Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon, following the Skaneateles and Rhinebeck Mirbeau locations. The brand known for world-class spa experiences is now accepting reservations for stays beginning in June 2026.
“With its natural beauty, vibrant arts scene, and dynamic downtown, Beacon feels like a natural extension of Mirbeau’s values of beauty, balance, and connection,” Mirbeau CEO Michael J. Dal Pos exclusively tells Afar.
Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon is on the 64-acre estate known as Tioronda, the former home of Union General Joseph Howland and his wife, Eliza Howland; the estate was named for the Iroquois word describing the “meeting of the waters,” at the convergence of Fishkill Creek and the Hudson River. The property includes the historic family mansion, the gatehouse, and the Tioronda School alongside meadows, forests, waterfalls, rivers, and ponds.
Built in 1859 by renowned architect Frederick Clarke Withers (known also for Olana, Jefferson Market Library, and Gallaudet University), the Gothic Revival Howland mansion is home to the famous Hunt Music Room, added in 1872 by 19th-century architect Richard Morris Hunt, who’s known for Asheville’s Biltmore Estate, Breakers Estate in Newport, and the still-operating Howland Cultural Center in Beacon. The Music Room houses a massive 1872 Johnson Opus 411 organ that guests can still appreciate as they lounge in the cozy room for cocktails and conversation.
Henry Winthrop Sargent, one of the fathers of American landscape architecture, laid out and planted the grounds of Tioronda between 1861 and 1862, and his work inspired the current landscaping. In 1915, the estate became the Craig House, an infamous private psychiatric institution whose celebrity patients included Rosemary Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Truman Capote, and Zelda Fitzgerald, before it closed in 1999. Uninhabited for 25 years, the Beacon property is Mirbeau’s largest and most ambitious project to date.

“Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon is our first resort centered around a historic building, so navigating the rehabilitation process was a new experience for us,” says Dal Pos. “As we worked through the state and federal preservation standards, we quickly realized that our goals were aligned: to restore the building’s character and historic details as faithfully as possible, while thoughtfully updating it for today’s guests.”
Starting today, guests can book rooms or suites within the historic 19th-century mansion or in the newly constructed Spa Chateau, which will house most of the resort’s 72 rooms and the spa. Throughout the resort, accommodations evoke the ambience of a French country estate in the Loire Valley, and amenities include in-room fireplaces, custom mattresses, Frette linens and robes, and oversized bathrooms with walk-in showers, soaking tubs, and double vanities. Suites offer an expanded living area and a private bedroom.
The core of Mirbeau Inn & Spa Beacon is the 25,000-square-foot spa with 21 treatment rooms—the largest in the Mirbeau collection. The signature Mirbeau meditation pool and rock serves as a grounding presence before a treatment, and there’s a reflection room; a solarium; eucalyptus steam rooms and saunas; yoga, Pilates, and fitness studios; and an aqua terrace with hot pools, cabanas, and an outdoor bar. Treatments include the Mirbeau Glow Facial, Mirbeau Signature Massage, and Mirbeau Signature Ritual, which involves a sugar body scrub and a warm body-butter application.
“At Mirbeau, we really believe in balance. Our approach to wellness isn’t about strict rules or rigid routines. It’s about creating experiences that feel natural and restorative,” explains Dal Pos. “We invite guests to move their bodies in our yoga studios, slow down with meditation in our quiet Resting Area, and enjoy deeply therapeutic spa treatments, all while still savoring life’s simple pleasures. Whether that’s a glass of Mirbeau Monet Rosé or our signature Mirbeau Sundae after lunch, we see joy as an essential part of well-being.”
The Mirbeau Bistro & Wine Bar inside the Howland Mansion overlooks the Mirbeau Ponds and Gardens (inspired by Monet’s Gardens at Giverny). It will serve French-inspired cuisine at all mealtimes, including Sunday brunch. The Champagne Terrace is an outdoor bar on the historic terrace off the Hunt Music Room.
Beacon is easily accessible by a direct Metro-North Hudson Line train from Grand Central Station in Manhattan. Nightly rates start at $499 midweek and $659 on weekends.
