The enormous Bumbódromo stadium, which looms over the city’s low buildings, was built to house the annual Boi Bumba festival. Boi Bumba happens only over three days in June, but you can get a taste of the event at any time of year. A short walk from the piers are several venues where you can watch demonstrations of the frenetic festival’s dances. The performers are decked out in the same vibrant colors and feathered costumes worn during the three days of show competition.
