The municipality of Gøta, near the fjord Gotuvik, was once home to the legendary Viking chieftain Tróndur í Gøtu (ca. 945–1035), defender of Viking traditions in the face of the king of Norway and the Faroese chief Sigmundur Brestisson (who had ambitions to convert the Vikings to Christianity). Tour the ruins of Tróndur í Gøtu’s farm as well as the nearby Blásastova Museum, comprised of ancient cottages and a village church, which give a glimpse into Faroese culture over the centuries.
