Join AFAR on the High Seas

AFAR and Silversea are setting sail for Spain, France, and Italy from July 27 to August 3, 2019 on the maiden voyage of AFAR Sailings. Here’s a closer look at the ports of call and why you should join us in the Mediterranean next summer.

On a balmy night in Barcelona, you’ll join your small group of fellow AFAR Sailings guests at an exclusive pre-cruise welcome cocktail reception in the heart of the city. It’s an exciting kick-off for the weeklong adventure that includes private excursions, dinners, and tours alongside AFAR’s very own tastemaker, Executive Vice President/Chief Revenue Officer Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio. Earlier that day you’ll have had time to visit some of the works by the city’s most famous architect, Antoni Gaudí—the Park Güell, his houses, and La Sagrada Familia, a soaring, and still unfinished, church—as well as savored the city’s culinary highlights at La Boqueria market or one of the many tapas bars.

The French Riviera

After calling at Sète, a quiet fishing village and seaside resort that has been nicknamed the Venice of the Languedoc, we sail for Saint-Tropez. Now a playground of the rich and famous, Saint-Tropez was long known for its winding streets and squares where locals play petanque. Fortunately, those same streets look very similar today, even while they are now also lined with designer boutiques and galleries. Silver Shadow doesn’t depart until 11:30 p.m., giving you time to enjoy cocktails or an alfresco dinner at one of the town’s open-air cafés before saying au revoir.

The Tuscan Coast

After stopping on Corsica’s wild shores, we call at Livorno. This port may not be as famous as some of Tuscany’s other cities, but it has a long and colorful history. Thanks to the Medicis, who long ruled it, the city has a number of stately Renaissance buildings. You can also use it as a base to explore some of Tuscany’s other famous sites—Lucca, still ringed by its city walls; Pisa, with its basilica and Leaning Tower; and Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance and home to the Uffizi Gallery. You’ll attend a private lunch featuring a special guest speaker at one of the city’s top restaurants.

Beautiful Amalfi

From Naples, we visit the stunning Amalfi Coast on AFAR’s exclusive private yacht tour. Swim (right off the yacht) in the pristine waters just feet from Amalfi’s cliffs, enjoy an authentic lunch at the award-winning Hotel Santa Caterina, and visit the legendary “vertical village” of Positano.
