A winter's day in Cape Town is generally mild and sometimes cloudy, which is still pleasant considering what winter is like elsewhere in the world. Winter is often a more affordable and less crowded time to travel. The autumn season is synonymous with rich foods, like bold red wines and hearty stews. When the southeasterly wind (known locally as the "Cape Doctor") starts blowing, the city feel gusts so strong it sometimes howls all night long.
