I spent a week in Sligo in September 2013 with some of my family. I'd never been to the northwest of Ireland before, and I loved it. Sligo town is lovely, with a fair amount to do and easy to walk. And there is even more in the area. Lots of great day trips or - more like it - partical day trips within an hours drive.

Gleniff, Co. Sligo, Ireland
This is a beautiful area northeast of Benbulben in the Dantry Mountains. Worth a drive on the backroads. It is on private property. It requires consent to walk on the road up to the top, which is worth it if you can.

if you have some extra time in Sligo, check what they have showing at the Model. They have three galleries, where they often have guest exhibitions. Also has the nicest restrooms in Sligo!

Distinctive little pub. On Sunday afternoon, they have a very pleasant casual traditional session. Maybe another night if you are lucky maybe they will have Rackhouse Pilfer, a great local bluegrass style band.

Quay St, Abbeyquarter North, Sligo, Ireland
A really nice place for lunch. It's on second floor, above the bakery and next to a retail space. You can't tell from the street, but it is a very nice place with good food. They have some buffet style, and will also make sandwiches to order.

Just spent a week in Sligo. Went to a fair number of places, and this was my favorite in town. They have a big bar menu - downstairs in the pub only - and a more expensive one for the restaurant upstairs - the Coach House. You can have food from...
