With some time on my hands, frequent flier miles to use, and support from friends and family, I applied and was accepted as a volunteer with All Hands Volunteers in response to Super Tyhpoon Yolanda (Haiyan) on the Island of Leyte in the Philippines. Despite working in a post-disaster zone, our hard working team managed to make enormous progress and even have some fun - learning to smile with the resilient Filipino people.
