Demak-Isthmus Bridge, Jalan Keruing, Sejingkat, 93050 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
As we strolled along the boardwalk of the daily fish and produce market in Kuching (the large city on the northern--Malaysian--coast of Borneo), this wee boatman pulled into his own berth. It doesn't look like he was bringing any fish to market.

Pasar Open Air, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia
After checking out the old outdoor market in Kuching (Sarawak, Maylasian Borneo), where the wares were mostly fish, eggs, produce, and other food staples (edible fare), we crossed a major street and entered the ground floor of a tall, modern...

It takes two days to make the 8.5km climb to the top of Mt. Kinabalu - the tallest peak in Southeast Asia. Located in Borneo - it's a challenging climb – the first is spent going up, up, up from 5000 ft. to about 10,000 ft. where you hunker down...

“Oh, Janet, don’t look!” comes the cry from within our pack of transfixed voyeurs. Alas, some warnings just seem to have the opposite effect and instead of averting our gaze our eyes fall immediately upon this visual offence. The big male we...

From the Kumai harbor, Kalimantan, Borneo. The massive concrete buildings in the background are for harvesting swiftlet nests for birds' nest soup. Loudspeakers on the roofs broadcast bird calls to attract the real birds into the buildings. Once...

Mabul Island, Sabah, Malaysia
Located a short boat ride away from Sipidan, a world-renowned diving site lauded by Jacques Cousteau, Mabul itself is popular with divers and snorkelers eager to see firsthand the denizens under the water. However, Mabul is also a cultural...

KM18, Jalan Telupid Tongod, Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysia
Late afternoon and pitch dark rides up and down the Kinabatangan proved awesome.. Our first exposure to the Pygmy elephant (80% the size of Asian elephants) was a herd of 40 (15 of which we could readily count, including 4 babies, one nursing)...

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
Severely dehydrated, severely under-dressed, severely cold (the sum of these parts means, of course, that I am severely stupid) my travel partner and I dragged our sorry carcasses through the woods and over rocks in the dead of night in search of...
