Bali's Local Tastes
Real Balinese dishes aren't as easy to find as you might think. Many restaurants offer 'Balinese food light' for tourists but if you want the real flavors of Bali head to a local market first thing in the morning or at night and eat where the locals eat. Pork, tofu, tempeh and green vegetables are staples of the Balinese diet, and you'll usually find a good dose of spicy sambal thrown in whether you're eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. Other ethnic cuisines have begun to open, but most retain a distinctly Balinese vibe.
