Just a few decades ago, Kuta was a sleepy stretch of sand along the southern coast of Bali. In recent years, however, this village has burgeoned into one of the island’s most popular resort destinations. The five-mile beach has long been recognized for its excellent waves, which draw surfers from around the world. The beach is also ideal for sunbathing, and the sunsets here are legendary. These days, however, Kuta is perhaps best known for its nightlife: When dusk falls, the bars, clubs, and beaches fill with international travelers eager to drink up the tropical atmosphere.
