One of the easier hikes at Zion is the Riverside Walk - a 1.5-hour, 2.2 mile round trip hike on a paved trail that follows the Virgin River along the bottom of a narrow canyon. The path is relatively flat, making this a popular walk for people of all ages and skill levels. At the end of the trail is the entrance to The Narrows, the narrowest section of Zion Canyon and one of the most popular slot canyons in the park. Best time to check out the Riverside Walk is early morning or early evening, if you'd like to avoid the mid-day crowds. Bring water, food, hiking sandals (in summer) and a bathing suit if you want to dip in the cool Virgin River pools. Keep your food tightly zipped up in a bag or backpack, as the abundant and fearless rock squirrels are super aggressive with rummaging for food.
