Zhujiajiao Shanghai China

This "water town" built on a network of canals on the outskirts of Shanghai is filled with traditional houses from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). One of the suburb's most famous sites, the always bustling Town God Temple also dates from the Ming era. Other periods are represented by the Kezhi Garden, an unusual mixture of European and Chinese garden designs, and the Qing Dynasty Post Office, from the early 20th century. Zhujiajiao is known for the 36 stone bridges that span the river and canals here, and the wooden boats that have long moved goods and people along the city's waterway now offer visitors scenic rides.
