Zhanshan Temple

Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the sea-facing Zhanshan Temple (Zhanshan Si) is the only temple located within Qingdao’s city center. Built in 1945, it’s one of the newest temples in China, but is constructed in traditional Ming Dynasty style and is no less compelling for its modernity. An active Buddhist sanctuary, the structure has three courts and features several grand halls, a bell tower and a drum tower, plus a shop selling incense sticks and souvenirs.
