Zhangjiajie: Avatar Mountains in Hunan, China
Unbelievably, the first of China's National Parks is unknown to many of those travelling through China. Located in the Hunan Province of mid-southern China, Zhangjiajie National Park has clusters of karsts poking out over the landscape as if they were flowers sprouting up from the ground. One trip up the mountain, and you understand how the artists of the movie Avatar used the vistas as inspiration for the fictional world of Pandora. At nearby Tianmen (Heaven's Gate) Mountain, a 30 minute Gondola ride 7.5 kms long and 1279 meters high takes you to the top of a misty mountain, where a manmade trail precariously juts out from the sides of the plateau. I guarantee your mind will barely be able to grasp where you are, as you seemingly walk through the clouds around what could be the closest to heaven as you'll ever be
