A Place to Both See and Create ArtLocated to the east of Bern in Schöngrün, the Zentrum Paul Klee is immediately identifiable by the three massive undulating wave-like buildings of the architect Renzo Piano. The large art center, completed and opened in 2005 is home to over 690 works by the Bern-born artist who lived from 1879 to 1940 and whose childlike and colorful work continues to delight. Each of the three buildings is home to a revolving exhibition of Klee's work (at any given time about 200 are on display from the permanent collection) as well as of work by other modern artists. The center's Kindermuseum Creaviva is a place where adults and kids can create art together, inspired by the whimsical and liberating spirit of one of modern art's most accessible masters.
