A Texas FirstThe Ysleta Mission was the first mission established in Texas and has the distinction of being the second oldest continually active parish in the United States. Like the other missions that comprise the El Paso Mission Trail, the Yselta Mission, known today as Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, was founded by the Franciscan order to serve Spanish settlers.
The El Paso Mission Trail, a nine-mile historic corridor that formed part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro from Mexico City to Santa Fe, is approximately 16 miles from downtown El Paso. The trail includes the mission Nuestra Señora de al Limpia Concepción del Socorro and the chapel of San Elceario.
