Find a Place to Relax at Venice Beach's Yours TrulyVenice Beach, a world-famous city on the Pacific coast, has long been a haven for tourists and L.A. city dwellers looking for a place to relax. For some, biking along the boardwalk or swimming in the ocean is the best way to unwind, while lifting weights at Muscle Beach or strolling the historic canals works for others. In the last few years, though, it’s become more challenging to find somewhere in Venice to shake off stress. More and more people have discovered just how special Venice can be, and so its three-mile stretch is often more crowded than calm.
That’s why the serenity of Yours Truly is especially inviting. Set on the city’s main drag of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, this new restaurant feels like an escape in the thick of it all. An exposed-beam ceiling and whitewashed brick walls form a clean backdrop to graphic orange cushions that wrap around the restaurant like couches. Circular tables, chairs, and greenery fill the spaces between, and sunlight glitters off the bottles stacked at the bar in the far corner. Yours Truly feels like a casual home, and its food has all the comforts and quirks of a home cook. That is, if a home cook also happens to be a big traveler.
Chef Vartan Abgaryan created a menu that’s as much a reflection of L.A.’s dynamic cultures as it is an homage to a global palette. Come for brunch and start with the house biscuits, which are served with a blend of whipped tahini, sesame seeds, and honey. Then, cut into the dutch baby, with morels and a parmesan cream, as you sip the restaurant’s namesake tonic. Once you’re finished, you’re sure to feel that coveted sense of calm that makes Venice special.
