Vestiges of an Old Treaty Port
Many Yangtze River Boat Cruises either begin or end their journeys in Yichang, the once vital river transportation hub connecting passengers and goods on lower river steamships from Shanghai to specially designed upper river steamships through the Three Gorges to Chongqing. Glimpses of vibrant treaty port life can be seen on a self-guided walking tour through Yichang's old city. Original city walls, the former Post Office, a Church of Scotland mission residence, Butterfield & Swire house, British Consulate, Roman Catholic Church and old Signal Road visually re-create a bygone era.
